Floridians for Government
Accountability, Inc. today unveiled a new agenda
for Florida’s state government’s FY2009-2010 and
the 2010 legislative session. In keeping with
FGA’s organizational purpose to work for
accountability and transparency in all levels of
Florida’s government, the Board intends to focus
on the following:
»
Reviewing the implementation
of the regulatory and policing authority of the
various agencies of state government with a
particular focus on the Department of
Environmental Protection, Department of
Community Affairs, the Agency for Health Care
Administration, and the Department of Revenue,
and providing analysis on how they impact the
average citizen and small business of Florida.
»
Reviewing the organizational
and fiscal practices of the Independent Taxing
Districts of Florida and providing suggestions
for improvement.
»
Examining the process that
the Florida Legislature and the Office of the
Governor uses to develop both short-term and
long-term initiatives to diversify and
strengthen Florida’s economy and providing
insights or recommendations.
These initiatives may not be the only ones
pursued. The Board will be actively seeking
input from Florida’s business and public policy
associations and citizens to identify other
potential areas of study.
“Earlier in the year, results from a statewide
poll showed that voters want government spending
and regulation to be placed within a transparent
framework that is accountable to the taxpayers,”
said FGA Chairman Jim Hart. “We believe our
initiatives this year will help create that
transparency and hopefully get more taxpayers
involved in the process.”
